Start a Chapter
Communities who are eligible to be a TeamMates chapter need to complete a Request For Proposal(RFP). In completing the RFP, communities need to identify the need for mentoring, develop collaboration within the community and develop a systematic plan for implementation. The steps to become a TeamMates Chapter are explained below.
Steps to Become a TeamMates Chapter
- Request Inquiry PacketContact the Central TeamMates office for an "inquiry packet" that includes general information about the TeamMates Mentoring Program including: TeamMates video, brochures, history, and guidelines for the Request for Proposal.

877-531-8326 (TEAM) - Organize Local Leadership-Organize a local committee of community and school leadership to review materials. It is recommended the committee include leadership from service organizations, business, faith-based groups, school administration, and community government.
- Inform the Community-Invite representation from the State TeamMates organization to the community to give presentations on a variety of topics including, the impact of mentoring and the details for initiating the TeamMates Mentoring Program.
- Form Advisory Board-If sufficient support exists, organize an advisory board and meet with interested individuals in the school and community to identify possible local program leadership, areas for financial support of program, and groups from which to recruit mentors.
- Complete Request for Proposal Paperwork-Through collaboration between the school and community, a proposal will need to be submitted to the Central TeamMates office explaining the details for rolling out the TeamMates Mentoring Program. Guidelines for completing the request can be obtained from the Central TeamMates office.
- Adopt TeamMates Organizational Structure-When the proposal has been reviewed and accepted, local leadership will be asked to adopt the TeamMates organizational structure including the chapter agreement, articles of incorporation, by-laws and centralized accounting procedures.
