Central Office Scholarship Opportunities
The TeamMates Mentoring Program offers two scholarships through the central office including the Osborne Opportunity Fund and the Gary Scharf Scholarship Fund.
- Osborne Opportunity Fund
Due: April 1st of each year. Criteria: Minimum of two years in TeamMates. For mentees pursuing post-secondary education in the University of Nebraska system. Schools include UNL, UNO, UNMC, UNK and Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture. - Gary Scharf Scholarship Fund
Due: April 1st of each year. Criteria: Minimum of two years in TeamMates. Established in memory of Gary Scharf whose family wished to dedicate funding to helping youth. This scholarship is a competitive scholarship and is not tied to any particular school.
Local TeamMates Scholarships
In addition to the scholarships offered through the central office, many local chapters raise money for each of their graduating TeamMates. Check with your program coordiinator about the opportunities available in your community.
Camp Scholarships
- Abbott Sports Complex Summer Camps
The Abbott Foundation is partnering with the TeamMates Mentoring Program to provide opportunity for mentees to participate in a variety of sports. Click on the link above for summer camp opportunities. Mentees are also given the opportunity to participate in existing Abbott Sports Complex Camps including volleyball and soccer. In addition to the scholarships provided by the central office and local chapters, TeamMates has created special partnerships with a number of organizations that provide scholarship opportunities. Listed below are the scholarship funds that are a good match for TeamMates mentees.
- Susan Thompson Buffett Scholarship
Due March 1st of each year, this is for students with a 2.5 GPA and who plan on attending a Nebraska state school. Priority is given to students in financial need. Click on the link above to review the full requirements and download the application. Once you receive a Buffett scholarship, follow-up services are available to you if you attend UNL, UNO or UNK. - Scholarship Quest

EducationQuest accepts nominations from the TeamMates Mentoring Program through Gigi Inness at ginness@teammates.org. Nominations are due in the spring and fall of each semester. Click on this link for nomination details. - EducationQuest Tips for Successful Applications
Review the tips provided by EducationQuest to give your mentee the best chances possible for securing this scholarship. - Ak-Sar-Ben Scholarship Program
The Ak-Sar-Ben Scholarship Program partners with Horatio Alger to provide 50 scholarships to students in Nebraska and western Iowa. The award is for $5,000 given over a four year period. - Howard Osborne Scholarship
Due: February 1st. The Howard Osborne Scholarship is for students bound for Hastings College. TeamMates Mentees are given priority in this fund. - UNL In-State Freshmen Scholarships
Due: February 1st. For students attending UNL. Choose from a variety of scholarships including diversity scholarships and the Davis-Chambers scholarship. Must be registered at the University before you can apply. - UNO Goodrich Program
Due: February 1st. The Goodrich Scholarship Program began in 1972 with funds from the Nebraska State Legislature. It is named in honor of Omaha's former State Senator Glenn Goodrich, who authored the enabling legislation.
The overall intent of the Program is to provide a college education for Nebraska residents, who otherwise could not afford it, while offering them a broad and meaningful experience in general education.
- College Bound Nebraska
College Bound Nebraska is an aid program for Nebraska residents who are undergraduates at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Pell grant eligible students who maintain a 2.5 grade point average may be eligible for full tuition assistance. - Nebraska State College System Advantage
The Nebraska State College System Advantage guarantees that first time freshmen who receive Pell grants will pay no tuition at Chadron, Peru and Wayne State colleges for the 2010-2011 academic years. - Midwest Student Exchange Program
The Midwest Student Exchange Program is a tuition reduction program for students who are legal residents of Nebraska but want to study in one of the following states: Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota or Wisconsin. Private institutions offer a 10% reduction and public institutions agree to charge no more that 150% of the in-state resident tuition (instead of 200%). - Signing Day: Landing the Scholarship

Tools for TeamMates in High School
The goal is for the TeamMates Mentoring Program to equip mentors with the tools to advocate for post-secondary planning. Mentors are encouraged to utilize the local school counselor and EducationQuest for help completing the FAFSA forms and meeting important deadlines the senior year of school. Listed below are some tools to for mentors, mentees and coordinators to help youth pursue their dreams of post-secondary education.

Training can be requested from your regional coordinator for mentors supporting high school students. The training includes tips for post-secondary planning. - College Readiness Checklist by Year

Know How to Go provides four easy steps for mentees to get to college. Part of a national effort to gain college access for first generation students, the website is a great place for mentors to start a conversation about post-secondary planning. - Dream It. Do It.
The goal of the Dream It. Do It. campaign is to help young adults find careers that they can be passionate about in one of manufacturing's many exciting sectors. Whether someone is interested in cars or computers or music or even art, there's a great job waiting for them in manufacturing. - Building Bright Futures Foundation: Avenue Scholars
The Avenue Scholarship Program is available for mentees to apply to in Douglas and Sarpy Counties in Omaha. Avenue scholars are supported from their junior year in high school through post-secondary education and until they secure work. The Iowa College Access Network has two College Planning Centers (Cedar Rapids and West Des Moines) that can provide scholarship assistance for students and their families. On the website you can subscribe to a monthly newsletter for high school students.
