Amy Burns is a mentor in Wausa Public Schools. She met her mentee, Abrielle, in 2013 when Abrielle was a 4th grader. Here’s what Amy has to say about their relationship:
“Abrielle and I enjoy painting, playing games, making crafts, baking, talking about experiences and preparing for her future during our time together. Abrielle is a very caring individual and works hard to always do her best. I have enjoyed my experience as a mentor as it connects me with the youth in our community and helps me remember all of those that played a part in my upbringing. The short time we meet each week helps me to see growth and progress as Abrielle continues through school and reminds me that you are never too experienced to ask others for opinions or assistance as you go through life.”
TeamMates mentors don’t have to have a special certification. They’re safe, adult friends who simply show up once a week. TeamMates matches meet in school during the day for about 30 minutes to an hour and BE THERE.
